Join us at the historic Music Box Theatre for Reeling 2005's Opening Night screening of Summer Storm followed by a celebration hosted by Strega Nona, sponsored by Stella Artois and Stolichnaya Russian Vodka.
Reeling is proud to open with Summer Storm, a sexy, evocative coming-of-age story that defies the stereotypes of the genre to deliver a fresh and gratifying vision of young gay athletes in love. Best friends for years, Bavarian high school students Tobi and Achim are members of a rowing club. Together they have led their team to several victories and are now looking forward to the big regatta in the countryside. But their seemingly unbreakable bond is threatened when Achim's romance with teammate Sandra grows increasingly serious. Already unsettled by his intense feelings for Achim and his fear of the growing distance between them, Tobi's confusion is magnified by the arrival of an openly gay rowing team from Berlin – the Queerstrokes. Tobi and his teammates are suddenly forced to grapple with their prejudices and, perhaps, their hidden longings. With achingly real dialogue, powerful performances, and stunning cinematography, Summer Storm easily earns its place as Reeling's opening night selection. 35mm, 98 min.
After the screening, head a few doors down the street to Reeling's official Opening Night destination, Strega Nona (3747 N. Southport), to continue the festivities. Treat yourself to a delicious variety of hors d'oeuvres courtesy of Strega Nona and complimentary beer and cocktails from Stella Artois and Stolichnaya Russian Vodka.
