Avant Queer
Shorts Program
5:30pm

Featuring the best of new queer experimental work, this collection of shorts is a showcase of how powerful and sexy avant-garde film can be. This program boasts a strong presence from the talented young French filmmaker Jean-Gabriele Periot along with acclaimed American artist Tom Kalin.

Every Wandering Cloud (Tom Kalin, US, 2005): Interweaving text from Oscar Wilde's "The Ballad of Reading Gaol" with a hand-drawn animation derived from Eadweard Muybridge's Human and Animal Location, Every Wandering Cloud is a meditation on themes of freedom and imprisonment.

David + Jonathan (Jan Wandrag, US, 2006): This tragic story of love and loss is Shakespearean in proportions.

Sensing the World By Echo (Mark Taylor, US, 2006): A story about growing up feeling like an alien from outer space.

Lonely Lights. The Color of Lemons. (Benjamin M Piety, US, 2006): A young jogger is shown a series of inkblot paintings that propel him into a collection of stories and memories about childhood.

Even If She Had Been a Criminal (Jean-Gabriel Periot, France, 2006): A collection of post WWII images that depict female Nazi sympathizers and the unique punishments they endured.

Gay? (Jean-Gabriel Periot, France, 2000): A comedic manifesto of one man’s very persuasive reasons for being gay.

Also showing by Jean-Gabriel Periot (France): Dies Irae (2005); Before I Was Sad (2002); Intimated Diary (2000); and Undo (2005).
