FRIDAY NOVEMBER 3 AT LANDMARK'S CENTURY CENTRE CINEMA

C.R.A.Z.Y.
Jean-Marc Vallée, Canada, 2005
7:00 pm

A huge crossover hit in its home country, C.R.A.Z.Y. cleaned up at the Genies (Canada’s Academy Awards equivalent), winning best picture and director and ten other awards. This boundlessly energetic period piece begins in 1960 and spans 30 years in the life of a large, tight-knit Catholic family living in suburban Montreal. Zac is born into this family on Christmas day, which his religious mother takes as a sign that he is special. And special he is. Zac is one of five brothers and the favorite of his father, a chain-smoking fan of Patsy Cline. But as signs begin to emerge that Zac is different from his rough and tumble brothers, his father begins to withdraw from him. Sexually confused, Zac struggles to find his place in the world and in his father’s heart. This hilarious, exhilarating, and at times painful coming of age story is told against a psychedelic canvas of pop culture and eighties punk, with songs from David Bowie, Pink Floyd, and the Rolling Stones evoking an atmosphere of both nostalgia and rebellion.  35mm, 127 min.
