Tackling everything from gay refugees, to same sex marriage, to first loves, these delightfully fun and timely shorts will surely make you sigh “Oh! Canada.” Gloriously Free (Ed Sinclair, 2004): Gay refugees who flee discrimination, persecution and murder from their native lands find freedom in Canada. Peking Turkey (Michael Mew, 2006): Chris Wong takes his French Canadian boyfriend home for the holidays despite the disapproval of his traditional Chinese parents. Swings (Mark Borowski, 2006), an insightful Super 8 film exploring the thoughts of two female friends before and after their first kiss. This Year’s Girl (Noelle Carbone, 2006): Finding her posse is complicated for a young college freshman who searches for her niche among lesbian folk singers and sporty dykes.
