The Book of Daniel
James Frawley, US, 2006
2:00 pm

Find out what some conservative Christian groups didn’t want us to see when they pressured NBC to pull the plug on its controversial television series The Book of Daniel. Reeling will screen two never-aired gay-themed episodes from the series created by openly gay writer Jack Kenny. The Book of Daniel is a darkly comic portrait of a family's personal struggles with issues of faith, forgiveness, and redemption. Rev. Daniel Webster (Aidan Quinn) pops Vicodin several times a day, perhaps for good reason. His son is gay, his sister-in-law is bisexual, his daughter sells pot, and his desperate wife Judith (Susanna Thompson) guzzles martinis trying to keep her family at peace. Seeking solace from the man himself, Daniel has regular conversations with a modern version of Jesus Christ (played by Deadwood’s Garret Dillahunt).  Video, 90 min.
