The deeply personal values of a gay minister and a religious-right family man collide when they agree to exchange lives to debate same-sex marriage in this fascinating documentary experiment, originally produced for Canadian television. From conservative Alberta beef country to the heart of Vancouver’s gay community, these men move into each others homes and lives and attempt to hang on to their belief systems while facing off with the opposing social networks.

Dylan Crozier is the gay-affirming pastor of Rainbow Community Church. Craig Chandler is CEO of Concerned Christians Canada, an organization that lobbies for “family values.” First Dylan is asked to spend a weekend living with Craig and his family in Calgary, and then Craig is invited to live with Dylan and his partner in Vancouver. Vignettes filmed at a variety of everyday social events (barbecues, church services, a night at a drag bar) stir up strong feelings and some unexpected camaraderie as the unlikely pair gets to know each other.

Dylan and Craig are both sincere, intelligent, articulate, open-minded, and likable individuals on opposite sides of the gay marriage fence. Producer-director Brent Kawchuck presents an honest, unflinching portrait of these two passionate men.

Also screening: Abomination: Homosexuality and the Ex-gay Movement (Alicia Salzer, US, 2006): Psychiatrists and other experts in the ex-gay movement provide a context for the personal stories of sexual orientation conversion or “reparative” therapies.
