Chicago-made Outing
Riley is a coming-out comedy about four Irish-Catholic brothers and one big family secret. Architect Bobby Riley (winningly played by writer-director Pete Jones) loves beer, baseball, barbecues ... and his boyfriend. This witty ensemble crowd-pleaser looks at what happens when youngest son Bobby finally tells his brothers (one of whom is a priest) that he’s gay.
Only Bobby’s sister knows the truth, and now that their parents are dead, she pressures him to come out to his brothers. Bobby and his live-in boyfriend would like nothing more than to drop the charade Bobby maintains with his lesbian pal. But when this “regular guy” spills the beans, his brothers assume he’s kidding. Bobby soon learns he’s not the only one hiding something.
Outing Riley is the award-winning second film from Chicago native Jones, whose first feature, Stolen
Summer, was notoriously chronicled on HBO’s 2002 reality doc series, Project
Greenlight. Mad TV’s Michael McDonald plays Bobby’s boyfriend, Andy, and Nathan Fillion (Waitress,
Serenity) plays his smart-ass brother, Luke. The film also costars legendary Chicago radio personality Steve Dahl. A charming comedy with a quintessentially Chicago sensibility.
