Paul Schrader, who has penned some of the most impressive films of the past thirty years (Taxi Driver, American Gigolo, Raging Bull, Affliction), has written and directed a star-studded tale of murder and scandal, and the secrets that bind people to one another, as well as to the personas they have created.

In a role proclaimed “the performance of his lifetime” by The Guardian, Woody Harrelson stars as Carter Page III, a good-looking, well spoken, and highly sought after society escort, or “walker,” who accompanies the wealthy ladies of Washington DC’s political elite in public.

A closeted gay man, Page is the perfect non-threatening male companion in perhaps the most sexually hypocritical city. He attends the opera, spouts gossip and one-liners with a wry tongue (“I’m not naïve, I’m superficial” is a favorite), and, as in the film’s visually enticing opening sequence, hosts weekly canasta games with the likes of DC wives Natalie Van Miter, Abigail Delorean, and Lynn Lockner (Academy-Award nominees Lauren Bacall, Lily Tomlin, and Kristin Scott Thomas).

But when one of his companions needs a helping hand with the cover up of a discovered murder that exposes her infidelity, the frail man behind the genteel and controlled facade begins to crumble, and Page must race against time to clear his name and shield his friend from scandal.
